Auckland Badminton Celebrates Adam Jeffrey’s Outstanding Playing Career and New Coaching Journey

After nearly a decade representing New Zealand at the highest levels of international badminton, Auckland Badminton will farewell one of its standout athletes from top-level competition at this year’s Wisden Cup.
Adam Jeffrey’s final competitive appearance will come in Auckland colours at the upcoming Wisden Cup, bringing to a close an exceptional playing career that has seen him establish himself as one of New Zealand’s leading doubles players of his generation.
A member of the New Zealand National Team and Squad from 2018–2026, Adam has built an impressive résumé both domestically and internationally. His achievements include multiple New Zealand Open National titles, Tour Finals victories, Oceania Championship medals, and strong performances on the BWF international circuit.
Among his many accomplishments are:
Two New Zealand Open Men’s Doubles National titles (2022, 2025)
Men’s and Mixed Doubles Tour Finals titles
A silver medal in Men’s Doubles at the 2024 VICTOR Oceania Championships
Bronze medals at the 2026 VICTOR Oceania Championships
Career-high world rankings of 108 in Men’s Doubles and 97 in Mixed Doubles
His contribution to Auckland’s Wisden Cup team has also been immense. Since 2021, he has compiled an outstanding record of 29 wins and just 6 losses, helping cement Auckland as one of the country’s premier badminton associations.
Beyond results, Adam has been recognised for his professionalism, work ethic, and commitment to continual improvement. Throughout his playing career, he sought training opportunities around the world, spending time developing his game in Indonesia, Thailand, China, Denmark, Austria, and Australia.
While his playing career may be concluding, his contribution to the sport is far from over.
Auckland Badminton is excited to announce that Adam Jeffrey has now transitioned into a full-time coaching role with the organisation, where he will play a major role in developing the next generation of players.
Already an experienced coach, Adam has served as:
Lloyd Elsmore Junior Club Head Coach (2021–2025)
Auckland Badminton Contracted Coach (2023–2025)
Auckland Badminton Development Coach (2025–Present)
He also holds a BWF Level 1 Coaching qualification and has built a strong reputation for his ability to connect with athletes and help players improve technically, tactically, and professionally.
Auckland Badminton General Manager Hamish Meacheam said the organisation is thrilled to have someone of his calibre continuing within the programme.
“Adam has been an outstanding representative of Auckland and New Zealand badminton for many years. His professionalism, international experience, and understanding of the modern game make him an enormous asset for our athletes and wider community.
We’re incredibly excited about the impact he will have as a full-time coach, and we believe this is just the beginning of another highly successful chapter in his badminton journey.”
As he prepares for his final Wisden Cup campaign, Auckland Badminton would like to acknowledge and thank Adam for his exceptional contribution to the sport as a player, while also celebrating the exciting future ahead as he transitions into coaching full time.
With Adam Jeffrey now joining Auckland Badminton full time, the Association is continuing to build what we believe is one of the strongest coaching environments in the country.
Further announcements in the coming days will reinforce the direction and ambition of the programme, as we work toward our goal of re-establishing Auckland Badminton as the premier badminton association in New Zealand.
